Spring Bar Roll Downs
The spring bar roll downs come directly from classic pilates. In Pilates, this exercise is performed on a piece of equipment called the Cadillac. This is an exercise for the deep abdominal muscle, which is called the Transversus Abdominis.
In the Roll Downs, you initiative the movement below your belly button, and then roll your spine down from bottom to top. Your head rolls down last. A helpful visual is to think of pushing backwards just below the belly button. The movement is reversed going back up. We leave the arms long doing the exercise. This exercise is a favorite because it feels terrific. It feels like both strengthening and a stretch and the same time.
